Long Distance Calling! Do You Have A Plan?

Deregulation in the telecom industries has certainly yielded some interesting competition; particularly in the area of long distance plans.  More recently, VOIP has put added pressure on this by use of the internet as a medium for long distance calling.  Companies such as Vonage and Skype are offering world wide calling either from a land/wireless line or direct from your computer for a few cents a minute and in some cases, free for peer to peer computer use.  Of course in this case both parties must share the same software and be online at the same time.  Perhaps this is an inconvenience but equally it does provide prearranged calling for international business.  There are some payment inconveniences of course but they are minor compared to the convenience offered.

When looking at long distance plans, it pays to be attentive to the restrictions being applied.  Not all plans are created equal.  In some cases, the plans offered by your telecom provider might be in your best interest.

For instance, the plan may only come into effect after you have accumulated a prescribed number of long distance minutes.  Other plans restrict the calling area to very specific geographical zones.  Some only allow for international calls and others for countrywide calls.

For the consumer it pays to review your long distance history then compare that with the details being offered by the long distance provider.  In this way the consumer can find the plan with the best fit and consequently, the best savings.

It truly is about saving your money; something we can all use a bit more of.
